Sitting here to write a newsletter today, I can't help but feel the melancholy of the remembrances on TV.  I remember walking in the field early on that day.  It was a beautiful day.  I was checking on corn for harvest and had gotten in the truck to go the next field.  The news came down on the radio about a possible plane down in NYC.  I had come in for breakfast when the first tower came down  live on TV.  I am sure that moment sticks with most of us.

Our harvest is in full swing.  Tomatoes, peppers, beans, corn, potatoes and onions.  There is not enough time, enough energy or enough bins.  Be patient with us and our staff as we try to meet our customer needs while under stress.

We have tomatoes for preserving this week.  We have Roma/Sauce(Juliet), Compari(Mountain Magic), Saladette (Sweet Prince), Brandywine(Strawberry Fields), Slicer/Beefsteak(Galahad).  

Our new Roma/Sauce tomato is Juliet.  It is smaller tomato that is meaty with a nice balance of acid, sweet and rich.  It is also blight resistant.  Late blight was the bane of our tomatoes last year and we really didn't have many to sell.  Thankfully, Juliet is filling the baskets very nicely and we hope to have plenty to fill our orders.  Juliet is also great for drying, roasting and salsa. Speaking of salsa, we have sweet peppers (Corno de Toro - orange and red, Shishito, Jimmy Nardello, bell), hot peppers (jalapeños, chili, Cheyanne, banana, wax, cherry, Fresno and Poblano) and sweet corn. Salsa Box

We also have sweet corn available this week for preserving.  This week's corn is the last planting that will be available this week and next.  Bushels are on the store. Sweet Corn Bushel

Basil continues to be available, it is flowering. Basil Genovese Type

Green Beans for preserving are also available.  Get them quick as the last planting is producing well.Green Beans

Pickled onions are on the website.  We have had an issue with allium borer on some of our onions and we may not have them for long as they are not storing well. Pickled Red Onions

Save the date - November 8.  The frolic is back and we hope to pull it off this year.  We will put up an online reservation in the next couple weeks.  We look forward to celebrating another year with our friends!
