We are harvesting our first batch of greens this morning.  We should have spinach, arugula, kale and chard at market this week.  Supplies will be limited.  To round out the garden offerings will be spring onions, rhubarb and a few herbs.

Cows are on pasture and we are trying to fix fence ahead of cow moves.  All of our fence must be walked and inspected, which takes several days.  It takes several more days to replace broken posts, rehang wires that have come loose and making sure we have good connectivity.  We are also replacing the back line on our pastures that is more than 30 years old.

Planting and transplanting are in full swing.  The crew is always planting right now.  The late wet spring has concentrated our work into a couple weeks, which makes for long days and tired backs.

The farm stand should be open by next week.  We will have a refrigerator full of things.  We should also have some greens and other vegetables available.

I planted 75 blueberry bushes this week.  I am hoping to take the time this year, since we have such a great crew, to do more of the farmstead development in addition to the store.  Speaking of the store, we are getting ready for an electrical inspection and final plumbing as we move in sink and dishwashers.

We have been talking about our new kitchen and store for a few years now.  I am aware of how many other farms have opened a store within a couple months and it seems like I am a slug.  I think it is important to realize that we are doing a full blown commercial kitchen in addition to the store.  And that we are doing most of the work ourselves.

I hope that the wait will be worth it.  I know I am really looking forward to having the work done.
