Our season is kicking off this week. Markets are kicking off this Saturday at both Williamsville and Elmwood-Bidwell. Next week is also a delivery week. Orders are due on Monday before 9:00 am.
We are hoping for a little more heat and sun. The rain has been constant, although we have a few rows in and are trying to stay ahead of the wet.
We just took delivery of 5 sheep from Keenan's farm in Central NY. We got 3 rams and 2 ewes. We will be castrating the rams, except for the one we will sell to another local sheep farm for breeding.
Sheep have added a really important grazing tool for small areas around the farmstead. Not to mention that they are really cute!
We are walking pastures to fix fence, going to pick ramps this afternoon and hoping that we can plant in warmer temperatures next week.
We have plowed, tilled and started to lay rows of plastic mulch on our most well drained section of field. First plantings of lettuces, some more greens, onions, beets, cukes and maybe even some corn by the end of the week will be planted.
For all of our egg lovers, we have taken delivery of our pullets for the year and they are already starting to lay. I hope for a much egg year as we have many more ready to lay chickens in the barn. The pullets are beautiful, healthy and ready to go!
We are making our plans for a Mooving Up Day popup party later this month. We dont know exactly when, but we will send out another update and publish on our social media when we set the day. We plan on a quick cookout and fun on the farm. You will get to participate in the big cow move across the farmstead!
