The cold takes everyone a few extra minutes or hours to do anything.  Frozen fuel pumps, waterers and toes...

We have spent endless hours of pushing snow around with the loader and making very large piles.  The snow has been impressive by any standard.  It seems the last two weeks gives us a daily dose.

This last Monday we said our last farewell to Milt Watson.  Jenny's dad was a father, mentor, friend and all around jokester for our family.  This picture shows how the heart of a lifelong farmer responds to a little baby goat love.  (Ellen knew what her grandpa needed that day).  It is both with gratitude and grief that we close this chapter.  He loved his family, he loved the land, he loved his friends and neighbors and he was always ready to lend a hand.  Our heritage is rich indeed.

The deep mid-winter is a time of slow breath.  Our land and trees slide into slumber beneath the cover of snow.  The land is purified and rejuvenates as snow hydrates and the cycle of thaw and freeze mixes the mineral with the organic.  Our area of the world builds a very specific terroir.  Terroir refers to the unique combination of environmental factors, such as soil, climate, and geography, that influence the taste and character of food produced in a specific region. It encompasses how these elements interact to shape the flavor of a specific time and place. While best known in wine circles, the same is said of other foods and drinks and can certainly be experienced here.

Our online application for work is posted.  If you or someone you know is interested in helping us out from May till November, please fill it out.  Positions are for full time and part time farm help. Saturday market help is also needed.  We have a great crew, we work hard and have a lot of fun.  There is always good food and laughter all around us. Just go the main menu of our website for details.

Plans for a farm full of activity are underway for this growing season.  We are spending a little time hibernating ourselves, but soon enough spring will be on its way.
