Memorial Day is a day to remember all of our ancestors.  I grew up with Memorial Day being called Decoration Day.  I think that the day should not be just a military holiday and that we all need connections to our ancestors.

It is the time we went to the cemetery to clean up the gravesites and put new flowers and urns out.  Take some time to decorate your family's graves.  Remember.

Rain, Rain go away!!  We have had almost 6 inches of rain in 30 days.  The last week has been very cold and wet.  We need a long stretch of warm and dry weather to catch up.  The weeds are coming hard and we can't till or plant when the ground is saturated.  The weather will change at some point, I hope it is soon.

We have a really nice planting of spring greens that have thrived in the cool, wet weather.  They will be at the Williamsville and Elmwood Bidwell Market.  The Williamsville Market starts this Saturday from 8:00 am till 1:00 pm.  Come out and enjoy what I hope will be a drier day.

The animals are all out on pasture for now.  May can be a real challenge in wet years.  The forage is so lush that animals have a hard time digesting it well.  This is especially challenging for lambs as the young ones can't handle a rich diet of greens.

We may need to bring the cows back into the barn if the weather doesn't change.  The mud is hard on their feet and the pasture.  If it gets rutted up, the second growth gets really behind.  It also gives an opening for certain weeds to overcome the grass.  I hope it dries.

One blessing of the rain is a chance to spend some time inside, cleaning and prepping for the season.  Our crew has taken the opportunity to clean!

Rhubarb season is in full swing.  Get your fresh rhubarb at markets this week.  Our plantings are wonderful.  We took the opportunity to break up a clump and plant two rows in the field.  This will double our rhubarb after a couple years.  This seemed like a good investment for us, as we never have enough of it.

Our Home Delivery CSA will begin the second week of June if all goes well.  We will be splitting the delivery area so that our deliveries are timed out properly.  Some of you will start the second week of June and some the third week.

We are up and rolling for this year at markets.  We are baking bread, harvesting spring crops and putting together our meat coolers for markets.  Come see us!
